Heather Hines Heather Hines began her involvement in animal welfare during the early eighties in Los Angeles, and was active with a well known anti-vivisection group. After moving to Oregon in 1991, she became more involved in domestic animal rescue, eventually co-founding both Cat Adoption Team in Sherwood, and Indigo Rescue in 1997. As president of Indigo Rescue, Heather not only develops and initiates Indigo's key programs; she is one of the organization's primary volunteers. She continually makes new contacts, networks, and gathers new support for the organization and its programs. She also consults with individuals daily, on providing shelter and care for rescued animals until they can be safely placed in new homes. She proposed and helped coordinate the launch of the onsite spay/neuter program at Washington County Animal Services, and more recently the Doggie Rehab program to help train dogs and provide increased public exposure. Heather is currently meeting with the directors of all three county shelters in a new effort to develop programs that will help increase volunteer support from within the communities. In her spare time, she continues with her passion for rescuing injured or ill animals, providing natural therapies and care during their rehabilitation. Heather works in the natural food business, and owns a dessert company. She has developed a vegan, no sugar, low-carb dessert that is scheduled for national distribution in retail stores by early 2004. Fifty percent of the proceeds from sales of the product will fund the S/N/I/P program. |
